& Addictions Week: where to find help
A series of 'open days' across the UK when you can visit alcohol and drug agencies

Some events from Misuse & Addictions/Awareness Week 2007

Phoenix Futures’ London residential-service open day: “in true therapeutic community style, the staff and residents worked together to create a big welcome,” said service manager ann mills. “It went extremely well. A big thank you to all involved in making the big day happen.”

Manager Nick Wilson’s wirral residential service attracted 100 visitors. Phoenix Futures ceo Karen Biggs was one of those listening to clients’ life stories — and guitar playing

Residents’ quarters: visitors had a chance to share clients’ experiences, and hear the painful journeys which brought them to treatment

| Photographed above are members of the Doncaster Safer Partnership and the Drug Strategy Unit, including Stuart Green, operational manager of New Beginnings, who coordinated a Tackling Drugs day in the middle of the week. “The day went really well. Clients enjoyed the game and there was a good sense of team morale — even though our clients lost 7-4 to Drug Intervention Programme clients!” he enthused. “Sport and team work offer a real opportunity for clients to feel part of and belong to something, and get a natural high away from drugs. The Doncaster ground has only just been opened and is one of the best, as the photo shows. The value which clients felt to be able to tread the turf was amazing.”
